iDRAC (Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller) is the embedded management controller on every Dell PowerEdge server. It gives administrators four things whether or not the operating system is running.

That independence is the whole point for a remote data center or a lights-out site. iDRAC is also the layer Dell OpenManage builds on for fleet-wide automation, which is a large part of why Dell's management tooling reads as mature.
